IVANHOE MINES is looking for an Assistant Group Financial Accountant

Ivanhoe Mines is a leading Canadian mining company committed to becoming a global leader in supplying critical resources for a low-carbon, renewable future. The company focuses on developing and expanding its four principal mining and exploration projects in Southern Africa, including the Kamoa-Kakula copper mining complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Platreef palladium-rhodium-platinum-nickel-copper-gold discovery in South Africa, the redevelopment of the Kipushi zinc-copper-germanium-silver mine, also in DRC, and exploration on the Western Foreland near Kamoa-Kakula.

The purpose of this role is to assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including consolidations for the Group and KHL, along with related tasks.

Requirements:
  • BCom Accounting degree with honors or equivalent
  • Newly qualified chartered accountant registered with SAICA
  • Completion of SAICA-accredited articles, preferably at a “Big 4” firm
  • Successful completion of the SAICA Initial Test of Competence and Assessment of Professional Competence examinations
  • Experience in the mining industry is advantageous
  • Exposure to organizations with a multinational footprint is advantageous
Your Key Performance Activities will include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing group and joint venture consolidations monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Preparing quarterly and annual financial statements for the group
  • Preparing statutory financial statements for subsidiaries and joint ventures
  • Reviewing monthly reporting packs submitted by subsidiary accounting teams
  • Coordinating quarterly and annual external audits (group and subsidiaries)
  • Preparing tax computations for companies within the Group
  • Monitoring treasury balances and maintaining related bank accounts
  • Preparing surveys issued by Statistics Canada and the South African Reserve Bank
