Job description

Assistant Farm Manager

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Farm Manager to join our dynamic team, based in Alberton.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily operations of the feed yards.
  2. Ensure profitable operations of the feedlot to optimize feeding parameters.
  3. Develop a feeding program for the herd, considering any special considerations.
  4. Understand the nutritional requirements for livestock to promote healthy growth.
  5. Work with veterinarians to maintain animal health and promptly address any sickness.
  6. Prepare plans and schedules for planting, spraying, land operations, and harvesting; ensure staff understands expectations.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and good condition of the feedlot.
  8. Report on weekly feedlot performance and manage the feed budget.
  9. Manage feedlot safety standards and relations with employees, suppliers, and customers.
  10. Manage the sale of livestock to buyers.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  1. Tertiary education in the Agricultural field.
  2. Minimum of 3-6 years' proven experience in the industry.
  3. Previous experience in livestock farming and agriculture.
  4. At least two years of experience driving a tractor.
  5. Sound knowledge of farm equipment maintenance.
  6. Supervisory experience is advantageous.
  7. Valid driver's license is mandatory.
  8. Weekend duties and standby are mandatory.
  9. Good communication skills (written and verbal) and computer literacy.

Package & Remuneration:

A competitive salary package will be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.
