Job description

Position: Assistant Diesel Technicians
Company: General Heavy Marine (Pty) Ltd
Location: Cape Town

We are looking for Assistant Diesel Technicians to join our Durban branch reporting to the Operations Manager. Technicians are required to ensure customers are supplied with quality service, maintenance, and repairs on port machinery such as forklifts and reach stackers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Repairing, servicing, and conducting maintenance of heavy machinery (such as forklifts, empty container handlers, bulldozers, etc.)
  2. Performing initial visual inspections.
  3. Performing preventative maintenance.
  4. Trouble-shooting systems and equipment.
  5. Adhering to deadlines and targets.
  6. Ensuring safety is adhered to in all tasks.
  7. Daily reporting of breakdowns to the senior technician and on relevant group chats.
  8. Completion of job cards and providing feedback to the Operations Manager in writing.
Requirements
  1. Mechanical certification and trade test or relevant qualification is required.
  2. Driver’s License.
  3. At least 1-2 years working experience in a similar field.
  4. Ability to follow health and safety regulations.
  5. Familiarity with technical concepts, port machinery, and operating systems.
  6. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics.
