Job Description

We are looking for a vibrant Assistant Consultant to join our Durban Environmental team. The candidate will support environmental projects, including environmental authorization procedures (Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Water Licensing, Waste Licensing, etc.), stakeholder engagement/public participation, and compliance auditing. The role also involves supporting other specialist teams such as air quality, water services, contaminated land, and geotechnical services as needed.

Health and Safety:

  • Model standards for SHEQ performance and behavior, aligning with the company's health, safety, environmental, and quality policies.
  • Assist in identifying SHEQ risks and driving processes towards Zero Harm.
  • Promote and uphold the company's values, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • 1 to 5 years' experience in Basic Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Management Plans, and Compliance Auditing projects.
  • Experience in the renewable, industrial, or mining sectors.
  • Good knowledge of South African environmental legislation.
  • Understanding of broader environmental and social issues (air quality, waste management, ecological, social, etc.).
  • Ability to travel within Sub-Saharan Africa if required.
  • Technical report writing skills in fluent English.
  • Project management skills.
  • Proficient in computer use.
  • Ability to work independently and pay attention to detail.
  • Good organizational skills.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who:

  • Can read, write, and converse in French.
  • Have published papers.
