Job summary

Shift Pursuit in Paarl is seeking an experienced Assistant Accounting Manager to support managers, supervise accounting clerks, and ensure deadlines are met.

The role covers reviewing monthly processing, VAT returns, and financial statements, and assisting with tax calculations and client information compilation. You will train clerks, manage client communications, and assist with SARS-related queries.

Qualifications

• BCom Degree in Accounting or an equivalent accounting qualification.
• Completed SAIPA articles.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience within an accounting or audit practice.
• Strong computer literacy and advanced Excel skills.
• Practical experience with SARS eFiling.
• Experience with Sage Online will be advantageous.
• Experience with Draftworx will be advantageous.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assisting managers with supervising accounting clerks and meeting deadlines.
• Overseeing clerks’ work and reviewing monthly processing, VAT returns, and financial statements.
• Assisting with compilation of financial information for clients.
• Providing training and guidance to accounting clerks.
• Managing client communications and responding to queries including SARS.
• Reporting to Managers and supporting tax and financial matters for clients.
• Handling administrative tasks and assisting on various client matters.

Key Performance Areas:

• Assisting managers with managing accounting clerks and ensuring deadlines are met
• Supervising, monitoring and reviewing clerks’ work
• Reviewing monthly processing, VAT returns, management statements, financial statements and income tax calculations
• Assisting managers with the compilation of financial information
• Providing training and guidance to accounting clerks
• Managing communication to and from clients
• Reporting directly to the Managers
• Processing client information and dealing with clients’ tax and financial affairs
• Assisting with various client matters, including administrative work
• Resolving client queries, including SARS-related queries
