EdUpStairs in the Western Cape seeks a qualified carpenter with a Trade Test Certificate to join the maintenance team. The role covers budgeting, procurement control, supervising junior staff, and maintenance of plant, hospital services and equipment. A valid driver’s license and willingness to standby after hours are required. Computer literacy and knowledge of the OHSA are essential.

The position offers a graded salary according to experience (Grade A–C) with respective annual packages.

Salary: Grade A: R253 341 per annum; Grade B: R297 249 per annum; Grade C: R345 342 per annum

Requirements

• Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry.
• Experience: Grade A: No experience required.
• Grade B: At least 18 years appropriate/recognisable experience in the area after obtaining the relevant Trade Test Certificate.
• Grade C: At least 34 years appropriate/recognisable experience in the area after obtaining the relevant Trade Test Certificate.
• Inherent requirements of the job: A valid driver’s licence.
• Willingness to be available after hours and perform standby duties.
• Competencies (knowledge/skills): Good communication skills.
• Computer literate.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 and its relevant regulations.

Duties

• Render assistance including departmental budgeting and procurement expenditure control.
• Supervise, train, develop junior staff and other HR related duties including evaluation reports of staff.
• Assist with the upkeep of a database of servicing and inspection of all plant, equipment and machinery.
• Do maintenance and repairs to plant, hospital services and equipment.
• Plan and design new installations and alterations attend to emergencies/standby duties and give technical advice.
• Assist in compiling specifications and await tenders and ensure compliance with stores regulations.
• Determine best utilisation of materials and to requisition materials accordingly.
