Job summary

Premier FMCG (Pty) Ltd in Stellenbosch seeks an experienced electrical technician responsible for maintenance and installation of plant equipment, fault finding, and safety testing in compliance with local codes. You will read schematics, diagnose faults and perform repairs across factory systems up to 400V.

The role requires an N4 in Electrical Eng and a trade test, with at least 5 years post-apprenticeship FMCG experience; MS Office literacy; willingness to overtime, shifts, and site travel.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, testing, and repairs on all plant equipment and machinery.
• Conduct electrical repairs and maintenance on factory machinery, equipment, and electrical systems.
• Read, interpret, and apply electrical drawings and job specifications.
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions and breakdowns, ensuring minimum downtime and effective problem resolution.
• Test electrical systems and components using appropriate testing devices.
• Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, circuit breakers, transformers, panels, motors, starters, and related equipment (up to 400V).
• Repair pneumatics, hydraulics, forklifts, date coders, air conditioning, refrigeration, effluent plant equipment, and other plant machinery.
• Repair or replace wiring, fixtures, and electrical components using hand tools and power equipment.
• Overhaul, inspect, and repair electrical motors, starters, auto-transformers, and other equipment as required.
• Conduct routine visual and annual inspections of factory electrical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Monitor and test inverters every six months to verify correct voltage output. Set up, program, and maintain date coders on production lines.
• Order, collect, and where feasible repair replacement parts, while reporting additional requirements to the Supervisor.
• Ensure all factory and office lighting systems remain in good working condition and support the installation of new electrical equipment as required.

Job Purpose

Responsible for all electrical maintenance and installation work. Does fault finding and repairs on all electrical equipment. Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance and avoid hazardous and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments.

Experience And Qualifications

• N4 Certificate in Electrical Engineering; Electrical Trade Test Certificate
• Minimum of 5 years' post-apprenticeship experience in the FMCG industry or similar
• Strong technical ability
• Knowledge of SANS 10142 wiring code desirable but not essential
• Ammonia refrigeration (Cat A/B) training desirable but not essential.
• Computer literacy (MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Willingness to work overtime, shifts, standby and call-outs as required
• Own reliable transport essential
• Valid driver's licence essential
