Job summary

NTCSA seeks a dedicated professional to perform power line inspections, servitude maintenance and defect repairs on transmission lines in the Eastern Cape region. You will operate tools, investigate faults, and assist in restoration operations while upholding safety and environmental standards.

The role requires working knowledge of line components, hazard awareness, and the ability to work under supervision in challenging outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• Electrical trade qualification with NQF4 credit allocation and relevant line work exposure.
• Understanding of safety policies and occupational hazards in line maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and line components.

Responsibilities

• Perform line inspections, servitude maintenance and defect repairs under supervision.
• Assist in line fault investigations and restoration operations.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental policies.
• Operate, inspect and maintain tools and equipment used on transmission lines.
• Contribute to customer and stakeholder relations during field work.
• Support activities across the Southern Grid with disciplined workmanship.

Introduction

Area of specialization: To perform in a safe and effective manner power line inspections, servitude and line maintenance, including defect repairs and restoration tasks on transmission lines using approved tools, equipment, procedures and techniques to ensure optimal line performance and sustainable and continuous quality of supply.Task Grade: T09.Business Unit: Southern Grid. Location: Gqeberha

Key Responsibilities

• Perform under supervision line inspections, servitude maintenance hardware defect repairs and operating.
• Perform line fault investigations.
• Assist in restoration operations during power line emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental policies.
• Operate, inspect and maintain tools and equipment.
• Enhance customer and stakeholder relations.

Skills and Competencies Required

Knowledge

• Electrical or mechanical engineering
• Lines and servitude
• Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of line work
• Transmission network
• ORHVS authorisation outcome 2 to take, handover the line under supervision
• Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and hazardous substances
• Basic line component identification
• Vegetation management
• Principles of electrical theory
• Level 3 maintenance competency authorisation
