Job Purpose

  • To carry out planned and unplanned maintenance on vehicles as instructed, ensuring deadlines are met also maintaining DSW Fleet in compliance with the National Road Traffic Act of 1996 as amended.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Undertakes engine tuning and inspects vehicles and records / fixes defects on various makes and models, both petrol and diesel.
  • Tows and recovers vehicles as well as reassembles and adjusts the clutches, gearbox, propeller and shafts where necessary.
  • Utilises compression testers, fuel pump pressure gauges for fault-finding and maintains cooling systems.
  • Diagnosing of defects on a variety of vehicles in consultation with Superintendents and replaces and services components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the supervision and training of apprentices and over workshops during late afternoon and week-end duty.
  • Installs overhead cables, maintains pulleys and bearings and ensures that job cards, time sheets and vehicle trip sheets are completed.
  • Repairs hydraulic systems on vehicles and tests vehicles.
  • Undertakes other repairs and maintenance work applicable to the trade of diesel / plant / petrol mechanic e.g. roadside repairs and liaises with workshop superintendent and suppliers for required spares.
