Application Support Engineer, Customer Facing, Excellent communication skills needed.

IT Support, 1st Line Support, 2nd Line Support, Service Desk, Customer Facing, Software Support, Systems Support.

This is an office-based role, located in Runcorn, Cheshire, Merseyside, requiring presence 5 days a week.

My client, a growing organization, is seeking an experienced IT Support / Application Support Engineer with a strong client-facing background to join its expanding team.

Your duties as an IT Support Engineer will include:

  1. Providing daily customer support via telephone and remote access, liaising with the customer’s IT/IS departments.
  2. Occasional travel to client sites within the UK and globally.
  3. Installing server software in customer environments.
  4. Supporting installation, setup, configuration, and commissioning of connected devices per customer specifications (full training provided).
  5. Establishing network communications and performing system testing during commissioning (TCP/IP network knowledge is advantageous).
  6. Identifying and escalating issues to relevant departments; supporting the engineering team remotely with software updates.
  7. Providing customer training on products at the client’s training center or on-site as needed.
  8. Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota, with compensation.

Ideal candidates will have most of the following experience:

  1. At least 1 year of client-facing IT Support experience.
  2. Innovative problem-solving skills and ability to share knowledge across teams.
  3. Understanding of Microsoft SQL Server installation, setup, and intermediate scripting skills (preferred but not essential).
  4. Knowledge of TCP/IP networks, including Firewalls, IIS, FTP.
  5. Experience with full-cycle software implementation.
  6. End-user and project team training skills.
  7. Willingness to support clients across the UK, Europe, and beyond, with prior notice.
  8. Full UK passport and driving license (beneficial).
  9. Exposure to scripting languages such as XML, XSLT, ASP.
  10. Knowledge of Microsoft SQL tools like SSRS, SSAS, SSIS.
  11. Experience with industrial devices and communication protocols.
  12. Additional language skills such as German, Spanish, or French.

The role reports directly to the Software Engineering Director and involves daily contact with customers, suppliers, and colleagues regarding infrastructure and software deployment.

The position is office-based near Runcorn/Frodsham, Cheshire, with potential site visits for support.
