A global provider of intralogistics and warehouse automation solutions is looking for an Application Engineer to join its Design & Engineering team in Johannesburg. This role combines engineering design with customer-facing solution work, turning operational requirements into efficient, technically sound intralogistics solutions.
This is a strong opportunity for an engineer in the early stages of their career who wants to build deep, hands-on experience across design, proposals, and project delivery, with genuine room to grow within the business.
Key responsibilities
- Support the design of intralogistics solutions, including material-flow strategies, storage systems (ASRS, racking, shuttle systems), conveyor lines, and AGV/AMR layouts.
- Work on 2D/3D layouts and technical documentation and assist with system sizing and capacity calculations under guidance.
- Provide drawing and design support on live projects, working from concepts developed by senior engineers.
- Contribute to proposals, concept documents, and cost estimates for the sales team.
- Join customer meetings, site visits, and solution workshops alongside the sales and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with mechanical/electrical engineering, project management, and controls specialists to keep designs aligned.
- Support layout studies, process mapping, and bottleneck analysis using CAD and modelling tools.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and follow internal engineering standards.
What you’ll bring
- A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
- 2-5 years' experience in intralogistics, warehouse automation, or material-handling system design.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, or SolidWorks.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort interpreting operational data.
- A customer-focused mindset and the ability to communicate technical ideas clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple design tasks against deadlines, and to work well across sales, engineering, and project teams.
What's on offer
- The chance to work on genuinely innovative logistics and automation projects for leading companies across multiple industries.
- A dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with career growth within a global organisation.
- A clear path to take on more senior design and concept work over time.
- A competitive, performance-based package.
