Jobtailor is seeking a Senior Analyst to join its energy advisory team in South Africa. You will apply quantitative skills to forecast markets, value assets, and analyse policy, collaborating with analysts and project managers on diverse client projects.

The role involves presenting insights, managing client relationships, and delivering high-quality market analyses and bespoke studies for electricity sectors across the region.

Job description

• Apply analytical skills to complex challenges facing the energy sector
• Receive structured training and complete hands‑on project work
• Execute bespoke energy consulting projects for clients through the Advisory team
• Develop market forecast reports and original in-depth analysis through the Research team
• Value energy assets, model bespoke scenarios and asset configurations, and forecast asset economics
• Analyse energy policy for governments and regulators
• Build and update forecasts of South Africa's power system using assumptions on demand, commodity prices, market activity and policy
• Conduct desk research and modelling in collaboration with other teams
• Produce regular briefings and mini‑conferences on specific market topics
• Work with analysts, project managers and senior colleagues on rotating project teams
• Senior Analysts take greater project ownership, manage client interactions directly and support junior colleagues

Requirements

• A strong academic track record, typically in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics, economics or related quantitative subject, or equivalent professional experience
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to collect, interpret and make sense of complex information
• Demonstrated quantitative ability, through academic, extracurricular or work experience
• Effective communication and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders
• A proven ability to deliver high-quality work and manage responsibilities effectively
• Fluency in English (native level or professional proficiency, C1/C2)
• For Senior Analyst applicants: relevant experience in the electricity or energy sector
• For Senior Analyst applicants: demonstrated experience using data to deliver electricity market insights
• For Senior Analyst applicants: strong project management skills and confidence to manage client relationships directly
• Knowledge of or a strong interest in the South African and wider African energy markets is an advantage
• Appropriate right to work in South Africa, or ability to secure and maintain it
