Job description

Purpose of the Job

The Markets, Issuers and Intermediaries Department of the FSCA is responsible for licensing and supervising market infrastructures (i.e., exchanges) operating within the South African financial markets in terms of the Financial Markets Act, 2012 (Act no 19 of 2012). The department has oversight responsibilities over public markets, authorised users, and issuers. The person appointed to this position will be stationed in the Market Integrity and Decision Sciences Division and will report to the Senior Manager: Public Markets, Issuers and Authorised Users.

Key Performance Areas
  • Assist in identifying shortcomings and anomalies in the regulatory framework;
  • Assist in proposing changes to the regulatory framework and help implement such changes;
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an effective supervisory framework within the context of the approved legislation;
  • Assist with monitoring compliance with the provisions of the Financial Markets Act and subordinate legislation;
  • Assist in planning and conducting inspections;
  • Liaise with stakeholders and provide regulatory guidance after consultation with the Senior Analysts and the Manager;
  • Assist in conducting investigations regarding Market Infrastructures and ensure all relevant complaints are addressed;
  • Apply risk assessment and risk management techniques.
