Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Air Traffic Safety Coordinator for Centurion, Gauteng, to oversee and enhance safety in air traffic control operations in a highly regulated environment.

The role requires at least 5 years in air traffic control or aviation safety, with strong analytical and investigative skills and knowledge of ICAO Annex 19 and SACAA CARs. On-site duties in Centurion are required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor air traffic control operations to identify potential safety hazards and risks.
• Investigate incidents, occurrences, and deviations from SOPs, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) for air traffic services.
• Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance with aviation safety regulations.
• Facilitate safety awareness programs and training for air traffic controllers and operational staff.
• Prepare comprehensive safety reports and recommendations for management review and action.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and other aviation stakeholders on safety-related matters.
• Manage the collection, analysis, and reporting of safety data, including occurrence reporting systems.
• Champion a strong safety culture throughout the air traffic control unit in Centurion.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Safety Management, or a related field; certification as an Air Traffic Controller is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in air traffic control, aviation safety management, or a related aviation operations role.
• In-depth knowledge of aviation safety regulations, standards (e.g., ICAO Annex 19, SACAA CARs), and Safety Management Systems.
• Proven experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and safety auditing.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
• Proficiency in safety management software and data analysis tools.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage sensitive safety information.
• Must be legally eligible to work in South Africa and available for on-site duties in Centurion .
