Job summary

RELX INC in Johannesburg seeks a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics platforms. You will enable AI-ready data while improving automation, performance, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable data solutions.

You will work with SQL, data modeling, ETL processes, and cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP) to support analytics initiatives and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or related field is required.
• Strong SQL expertise with complex queries, performance tuning, data validation.
• Experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT workflows, and data transformation.
• Working knowledge of at least one programming language (Python/Java).
• Experience with databases, data platforms or cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Familiarity with version control, testing, and core software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and integrations for analytics and AI use cases.
• Develop high-quality, well-tested code following best practices for readability, security, and maintainability.
• Use SQL to query, transform, validate, and optimize data across systems.
• Collaborate with partners to translate data needs into practical solutions.
• Document data requirements and contribute to analytics/AI workflow specifications.
• Troubleshoot data issues and drive automation or tooling for reliability.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and orchestration.
• Participate in code reviews and promote reproducibility and data quality.
• Support database and data flow management to meet reliability standards.
