Job summary

Old Mutual South Africa is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the development, modernisation and maintenance of applications, systems and platforms, translating technology strategy into stable, secure and scalable solutions in an AI-native leadership role.

You will oversee Software & Product Engineering, Platform & DevOps, Data Engineering, AI/ML, Security, and QA/SRE, guiding a Chapter-based engineering organisation and driving delivery discipline and governance across complex environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• At least 8 years of technology or software engineering experience.
• At least 7 years of managerial experience leading software teams.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and complex projects.
• Strong understanding of full-stack, integration and platform technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead software and product engineering across platforms.
• Manage delivery of major engineering programmes.
• Embed AI-assisted engineering practices into lifecycle.
• Define and maintain application roadmaps aligned to business.
• Develop engineering talent through coaching and mentoring.
• Ensure security, resilience and quality across systems.
