Placements24 is seeking an experienced Agronomist to join their agricultural team in Paarl. The role focuses on expert advice, soil fertility optimization, and crop management to improve yield, quality and sustainability for farmers in the Western Cape.

You will conduct soil analyses, develop fertility plans, identify pests and nutrient deficiencies, and guide planting, irrigation and IPM strategies. A degree in Agronomy or related field and proven advisory experience are required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience as an Agronomist or in a similar agricultural advisory role.
• Strong knowledge of soil science, plant physiology, and pest/disease management.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to advise and train agricultural professionals.

Responsibilities

• Conduct soil analysis and develop soil fertility management plans, including fertilization recommendations.
• Assess crop health, identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, and prescribe appropriate treatments.
• Provide technical guidance to farmers on best practices for planting, cultivation, irrigation, and harvesting.
• Develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
• Monitor environmental conditions and their impact on crop growth.
• Keep abreast of new agricultural technologies, research findings, and regulatory requirements.
