Agronomist

POSITION: Agronomist

LOCATION: Alberton

REPORTING TO: Senior Agronomist

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1. Field Monitoring and Data Collection: Collect and report data on crop health, growth, development, and environmental conditions and report to Senior Agronomist.
2. Identify pests, diseases, and stress factors in planted fields.
3. Identify acceptable fields and areas to plant.
4. Crop Management Support: Report crop development to growers and keep Agric system up to date.
5. Develop harvesting plans, including factory scheduling and coordinating with growers.
6. Negotiate and sign contracts for the purchase of raw products.
7. Determine harvesting dates and organize the transport.
8. Work closely with Supply Chain and Production.
9. Research and Trials Support: Support field trials on new varieties, and data capturing. Collect field data, report findings to Senior Agronomists.
10. Communication with Growers: Provide technical support and guidance to growers.
11. Communicate standards, requirements, and best practices.
12. Quality Control and Compliance: Conduct quality assessments on vegetable fields and give feedback to growers.
13. Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
14. Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of field activities and observations.
15. Generate reports on field conditions, trials, and quality outcomes.
16. Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards: Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate protective equipment.
17. Report any safety or environmental risks and support sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

1. Degree in biological or agricultural science
2. Technical Knowledge of crop management practices within the territory and product expertise
3. 3-5 years' field experience in vegetable production
4. Analytical and creative skills to identify and take advantage of new business opportunities within the region
5. Computer Literate
6. Communication and human relation skills necessary
7. Ability to work independently
8. Ability to establish relationships
9. Ability to travel in region daily and a valid driver's licence
