Job description

The Aftersales Technician plays a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction, building trust, and maintaining the reputation of the vehicle manufacturer or dealership.

The main responsibility of an Aftersales Technician is to:

Diagnose and Repair Vehicles After Delivery to Customers, more specifically, their primary duties typically include:

  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and diagnosing technical issues with vehicles after they have been delivered to customers.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Performing repairs, maintenance, and upgrades on vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Warranty Work: Conducting warranty repairs and maintenance on vehicles, ensuring that all work is done in accordance with manufacturer standards.
  • Customer Support: Providing technical support and assistance to customers, addressing their concerns and resolving any issues they may have with their vehicles.

Technical Skills

  • Fabrication and assembly of bus body components
  • Welding and metalwork
  • Power tool operation
  • Technical drawing interpretation
  • Knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanics

Practical Skills

  • Hand tool proficiency: Skilled in using a variety of hand tools for tasks like measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling.
  • Quality workmanship: Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work that meets safety and performance standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during the construction or repair process.
  • Safety consciousness: Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to working with heavy machinery, welding, and other potentially hazardous tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • National Certificate or Diploma in a relevant field such as Automotive Repair, Mechanical Engineering, or a related trade (e.g., N1-N6 or equivalent).
  • Technical Training: Completion of a technical training program in automotive repair, heavy vehicle mechanics, or a related field.
  • Apprenticeship: Completion of an apprenticeship program in a relevant trade.

Preferred Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Industry Certifications: Possession of industry-recognized certifications, such as City & Guilds or other relevant manufacturer certifications.

  • Continuous Learning: A commitment to ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date with industry advancements and manufacturer requirements.
  • Manufacturer Training: Completion of manufacturer-specific training programs for bus repair and maintenance.
