Drifters Adventures (Tourvest) is seeking permanent Afrikaans language guides based in Johannesburg to cover tours in Botswana, Zambia and Malawi. Reports to Drifters Depot in Muldersdrift. Competitive package includes medical aid, provident fund and life insurance.

Must hold Code 10 PdP and NTG tourism cert, with overland guiding experience preferred. Key duties include on-tour safety, customer engagement, itinerary delivery, and coordination with offices.

• Willingness to learn, guest safety and tour procedures.

Aufgaben

• On Tour: manifest checks and indemnity forms handling.
• Inform, safeguard and entertain guests during travels and ensure safety.
• Coordinate emergency procedures when applicable and report issues.
• Deliver itinerary and manage execution, provide context on sites.
• Coordinate and facilitate all activities in the itinerary and tours.
• Translate for guests when required and manage border crossings.
• Assist in hospitality services, cooking, catering and budget handling.
• Office: complete pre-departure checks, sign-in/out and tour finance reconciliations.
• Maintain Tour Files and update Guest Feedback Forms as needed.

Drifters Adventures (Tourvest) is looking for permanent Afrikaans language guides for a Flemish language tour series In Botswana as well as Zambia and Malawi. The Guide however, needs to be based in Johannesburg, as our Drifters Depot is in Muldersdrift, where all guides report to.

Competitive salary includes Medical aid, Provident fund and life insurance.

Responsibilities

• On Tour:
  • Manifest/headcount checks
  • Manage signing of Indemnity Forms, collection of clients insurance & next of kin details, and return to MOD before departure
  • Inform, safeguard & entertain guests during travels
  • Ensure guests’ safety
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate emergency procedures when applicable
  • Report any problems or anomalies on tour immediately to MOD/consultant/manager
  • Deliver the specified itinerary and manage execution
  • Provide information about nature, culture, context, points of interest, or anything else relevant
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate all activities detailed in the itinerary
  • Accompany guests on all activities as detailed in the itinerary
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate optional activities
  • Assist guests in all hospitality services
  • Translate for guests when required
  • Manage entrance to activities, points of interest, national parks etc and associated fees, as required
  • Manage border crossings and interactions with authorities
  • Drive safely and responsibly in accordance with company policy and relevant law
  • Use company assets with care, according to policy
  • • Manage catering, cooking, hygiene, meal preparation and serving where applicable
    • Manage tour finances in accordance with policy
    • Protect the company’s reputation and never bring the company into disrepute
    • In the office/depot
      • Complete manifest checks
      • Check Tourplan bookings/Departure Overview/supplier bookings pre-departure
      • Conduct sign-out and check vehicles, tools, equipment and documents pre-departure
      • Conduct sign-in and reporting post tour
      • Return fully complete Guide Reports
      • Return Guest Feedback Forms and add relevant information if required
      • Return original Indemnity Forms
      • Return statutory documents as required eg cross-border manifests
      • Translation of Guest Feedback Forms (if applicable)
      • Assist in the creation and maintenance of Tour Files and or Itinerary Commentary when required
      • Complete tour finance reconciliations (balancing)
      • Highlight changes to budgeted costs for any expenditure on tour
      • Attend training sessions as required
      • Attend to personal qualifications and required documents

    Assist Depot operations in all capacities as required

  • Effective communication with the tour consultant/MOD/manager
  • Work effectively together in a dual guide scenario
  • Effective communication with driver, if applicable
  • Continuing personal growth and further education
  • Continuously develop own product knowledge by self-study, discussion with peers
  • Keep abreast of industry trends

Qualifications and Expertise

– Code 10 PdP

– NQF level 2/4 tourisim certificate: NTG

– 1 st Aid at appropriate level

– Previous overland guiding experience

• May also be considered with just the code 10 PdP if the applicant can show they are working towards the other core requirements.

The salary for this position is competitive and dependent on relevant experience.
