Job description

Responsible for assigning and coordinating patient care during shift as well as providing direct patient care. Consults with staff, physicians, Inpatient Manager and Director of Nursing and Surgical Services on nursing issues and interpretation of facility policies to ensure patient needs are met. Collaborates with the inpatient manager on performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.




  • Responsible for the delivering patient care.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

  • Team player willing to work collaboratively with multiple hospitalists, physicians, and clinical staff.

  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, Inpatient Manager, and Director of Nursing and Surgical Services.

  • Monitors compliance and implements all department policies and procedures related to the control of infections and communicable diseases on a concurrent basis.

  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.

  • Responsible for admitting and discharging patients.

  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formulation of the plan of care.

  • Keeps outpatient physicians updated on their patient's status and treatment plans.

  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.

  • Collaborates on performance improvement activities for the department.

  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.

  • Provides education to staff on performance improvement. Ability to plan and organize orientation and inservice training for unit staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs.

  • Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the unit. Prepares reports, i.e., utilization, performance improvement, outcome data.




Requirements:



  • Graduate of an accredited school for APRN/PA.

  • Current licensure in the State of Nebraska.

  • Current ACLS and BCLS certification.

  • At least two (2) years of clinical experience preferred.

  • At least two (2) years of experience in medical/surgical nursing and/or family practice.
