Purpose: As organizations expand their digital footprint, network security becomes a crucial pillar of cybersecurity.

The Network Security administrator is responsible for implementing and maintaining secure network architectures, focusing on segmentation, micro-segmentation, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), intrusion detection systems (IDS), firewall reviews, and access controls like .1X.

This role also involves securing cloud-based solutions such as Cloudflare Secure DNS, Web Application Firewall (WAF), and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) mitigation. To excel in this critical role, a Network Security administrator requires an understanding of security products, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay informed about the ever-evolving threat landscape.

The Microsoft Security Administrator safeguards sensitive data, minimizes cyber risks, and ensures the smooth operation of the organization's digital foundation. This role is suited for professionals looking to enhance network security defenses, implement segmentation strategies, and manage advanced security solutions to protect the organization's digital infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Implement and maintain network security solutions, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation strategies.
2. Deploy and manage micro-segmentation solutions to minimize lateral movement risks.
3. Work closely with application teams to define and enforce network policies, ensuring secure access and minimizing unnecessary exposure.
4. Conduct network security rule reviews, policy optimization, and regular audits to enhance security posture.
5. Review and maintain .1X authentication for wired and wireless network security.
6. Ensure network segmentation aligns with Zero Trust security principles and business needs.
7. Lock down network access for applications by defining strict access control lists (ACLs) and micro-segmentation rules.
8. Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to enforce security best practices for application connectivity and workload isolation.

Planning and Execution:

1. Administer and optimize security solutions, including Secure DNS, WAF, and DDoS protection.
2. Configure and fine-tune web traffic filtering and threat prevention policies.
3. Ensure proper integration of cloud security solutions with on-premises and hybrid network architectures.
4. Monitor and respond to web security incidents, mitigating risks proactively.

Operations:

1. Monitor network traffic for anomalies, threats, and security violations using IDS/IPS solutions.
2. Investigate and respond to security incidents, performing root cause analysis and remediation.
3. Collaborate with SOC and security operations teams to enhance network threat visibility and response.
4. Conduct testing and vulnerability assessments related to network infrastructure.
5. Support continuous improvements in network security monitoring, alerting, and logging capabilities.
6. Review and manage .1X-based network access control (NAC) solutions.
7. Implement and enforce secure access policies for internal and external network users.
8. Integrate network security policies with identity management systems.
9. Review and optimize VPN, ZTNA, remote access, and cloud network security configurations.

Analytics and Reporting:

1. Analyse network security logs, alerts, and traffic patterns to identify security risks.
2. Provide security reports, risk assessments, and recommendations to leadership.
3. Develop and maintain security documentation, including firewall rules, network diagrams, and incident reports.
4. Contribute to security dashboards and KPIs for tracking network security effectiveness.

Qualifications:

1. Preferred certifications: Network+, Security+, CEH, Cisco Certifications, CySA+, SSCP, CISSP.
2. 3+ years of experience in network security engineering, infrastructure security, or related roles.
3. Strong knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, IPS/IDS, VPNs, and secure access controls.
4. Experience with micro-segmentation solutions and Zero Trust Network Architecture (ZTNA).
5. Proficiency in configuring and managing security appliances (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco, Check Point, or similar).
6. Hands-on experience with Cloudflare security services (WAF, Secure DNS, DDoS mitigation).
7. Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, and ISO.
8. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for investigating network security incidents.
