Job description

Institutional Advancement is dedicated to increasing awareness, public support and financial contributions to the University through alumni relations, communications, development and special events.

Donor and Alumni Relations raises and manages private philanthropic donations from corporates, trusts, foundations and alumni. We engage donors on academic, research and other institutional priorities that matter to them. By placing donors at the centre of our work, we create an environment where student, staff and community success can be supported through increased private funding.

This position supports the Donor and Alumni Relations function by delivering timely and accurate prospect research, maintaining data integrity, and providing information critical to fundraising strategy donor engagement and donor stewardship. The role reports to the Manager: Donor and Alumni Relations, who in turn reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement.

The successful incumbent is responsible for the following Key Performance Areas:

  • Identify, research, and qualify donor and alumni prospects for the University's fundraising portfolio.
  • Draft engagement briefings in consultation with the Fundraising and Alumni Relations team.
  • Monitor and match funding calls or requests for proposals to the University’s fundraising portfolio.
  • Update the donor and alumni database with accurate biographical data and generate reports as needed.
  • Provide general support for the team’s stewardship initiatives, such as donor report reminders.
  • Support data resource management by monitoring and assisting with departmental direct mail campaigns.
  • Assist with the coordination of fundraising events.
  • Prioritise and respond to ad-hoc requests for donor and project information.
  • Provide support for ad-hoc requests across the Department for Institutional Advancement.

Minimum Requirements:(Qualification and Experience)

  • National Higher Certificate or Equivalent qualification at NQF Level 5
  • At least two years of relevant experience in a similar role within an advancement or development office.
