The University of the Western Cape is seeking an Administrative Assistant (Internal only) to support the Office for Students with Disabilities within the Centre for Student Support Services. Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating schedules, events, examinations, or logistical arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline administrative support and respond to enquiries from students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders regarding disability support services.
  • Assist with student registrations, accommodation requests, record management, and reporting within the Office for Students with Disabilities.
  • Support arrangements for approved test and examination accommodations.
  • Provide administrative support for assistive technology services and equipment management.

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSWD), within the Centre for Student Support Services (CSSS) in the Division of Student Development and Support (SDS), invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Administrative Assistant. The Office for Students with Disabilities facilitates equitable access and participation for students with disabilities by coordinating academic, administrative, and reasonable accommodations that reduce barriers to learning and student success. The Office supports students with a range of recognised disabilities and works collaboratively with academic departments, support services, administrative divisions, external service providers, schools, and disability organisations to promote an inclusive learning environment.

The Administrative Assistant provides comprehensive administrative, operational, and logistical support to the Office for Students with Disabilities. The incumbent assists with student registration and accommodation processes, examination accommodation arrangements, assistive technology administration, record management, stakeholder communication, and the efficient delivery of disability support services.

Key Performance Areas
  • Provide frontline administrative support and respond to enquiries from students, staff, parents, and external stakeholders regarding disability support services.
  • Assist with the administration of student registrations, accommodation requests, record management, and reporting processes within the Office for Students with Disabilities.
  • Support the administrative and logistical arrangements required for the provision of approved test and examination accommodations.
  • Provide administrative support for assistive technology services, equipment management, and disability-related funding processes.
  • Assist students with disability related funding applications and provide administrative support for relevant funding processes.
  • Support disability awareness, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives that promote equitable participation and student success.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for outreach, recruitment, and transition programmes for prospective students with disabilities.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative, operational, and logistical support to ensure the effective functioning of the Office for Students with Disabilities.
  • A National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification at NQF 4.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' relevant administrative experience, preferably within a higher education, student support, disability services, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing administrative support, record management, and stakeholder liaison services.
  • Experience in coordinating schedules, events, examinations, assessments, or logistical arrangements.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
