Role Summary

As our Actuarial Analyst at Dis-Chem Life, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing groundbreaking life insurance products that set new industry standards. Leveraging your actuarial expertise, you will assess and manage risk, create innovative pricing models, and ensure our products are both sustainable and customer-centric.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that products meet regulatory requirements while aligning with our mission to deliver high-value, affordable solutions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and enhance life insurance products aligned with Dis-Chem Life's goals.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, and Sales to ensure competitiveness and compliance.
  • Provide actuarial insights for sustainable and market-aligned product structures.
  • Develop and refine pricing models for competitive and sustainable products.
  • Adjust pricing based on market trends, performance, and risk appetite.
  • Assess and manage underwriting, mortality, and morbidity risks.
  • Support risk management frameworks and mitigation strategies.

Actuarial Analysis & Reporting:

  • Conduct actuarial analysis (reserving, profitability modelling, claims projections).
  • Provide actionable reports for senior management.
  • Maintain transparent documentation of actuarial assumptions and models.

Compliance & Industry Standards:

  • Ensure actuarial models meet regulatory requirements.
  • Update assumptions based on market trends and regulatory changes.
  • Support underwriting policy alignment with industry standards.

Statistical & Economic Modelling:

  • Use predictive and economic modelling for mortality, morbidity, and claims forecasting.
  • Analyse economic trends and recommend model adjustments.

Collaboration & Professional Development:

  • Work closely with key teams to integrate actuarial insights into business strategies.
  • Continuously develop expertise in actuarial science, industry trends, and emerging technologies.

Innovation & Process Improvement:

  • Enhance actuarial processes and models for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support innovation through actuarial insights to drive competitive advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in any actuarial software (Prophet, AXIS, SAS, Excel, R, Python, Basys).
  • Knowledge of life insurance product pricing, reserve setting, and risk management.
  • Ability to build financial models and produce reports to guide decision-making and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, such as SAM, IFRS 17, and life insurance regulations.
  • Experience handling large datasets, performing statistical analysis, and generating insights to inform business decisions.

Soft Skills:

  • The ability to explain complex actuarial and financial concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to provide creative solutions to complex financial challenges.
  • Ensuring accuracy in analysis, modelling, and reporting to prevent errors and ensure financial stability.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams to achieve business objectives and ensure alignment across departments.
  • Manage multiple high-priority tasks and deadlines with precision and adaptability, ensuring success under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong integrity, ensuring that all actuarial work adheres to the highest ethical standards and complies with regulatory requirements.

Experience:

  • Between 1-3 years of experience in actuarial roles, with a focus on life insurance or related financial services sectors.
  • Experience with pricing, reserving, and risk management specific to life insurance is highly preferred.
  • Experience using actuarial software for modelling and financial analysis.
  • Nearly / Newly Qualified Actuary.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Good progress towards Actuarial exams and certification (ASSA, SOA, IFoA, or equivalent).
  • Ongoing development towards actuarial certification.
  • Accredited with ASSA, or equivalent professional actuarial body.
