Job description

Job Description: Responsible for analysing and reconciling detailed general ledger accounts as assigned.

Keeps records and accounts accurate and current.

Researches and resolves discrepancies and accounting errors.

Completes related reports, summaries, and records.

Creates monthly expense reports.

Performs related clerical duties.

Duties:

  1. Assumes responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of assigned accounting functions.
  2. Reviews source documents and records daily transactions.
  3. Balances and posts daily write-ups and journals.
  4. Prepares recurring account statements.
  5. Posts transactions to the appropriate general ledger account.
  6. Reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned.
  7. Performs miscellaneous filing/sorting of checks, journals, daily write-ups, etc.
  8. Completes required records and reports and maintains files.
  9. Creates expense reports as assigned.
  10. Completes various accounting functions in accordance with established policies and procedures, including:
    1. Prepare monthly financial report.
    2. Bank reconciliations.
    3. Ensuring all invoices for the period have been authorised and captured in creditor module.
    4. Creditors reconciliations.
    5. Debtors reconciliations, invoicing, receipting.
    6. Reconcile general ledger to debtors ledger, balance sheet and income statement, loan balances, company accounts.
    7. Prepare trial balances from source documents.
    8. Prepare balance sheets and income statements.
    9. Prepare notes to the reports.
    10. Consolidations.
    11. Prepare monthly group consolidation.
    12. File copies of final monthly reports.
    13. Maintain backups of accounting package data.
    14. Participate in annual audit.
    15. Complete and submit all statutory and municipal returns.
  11. Assumes responsibility for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting problems and discrepancies.
  12. Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with area personnel and management.
  13. Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain information and/or to correct transactions.
  14. Assists accounting personnel as needed.
  15. Keeps management informed of area activities and significant problems.
  16. Reports the status of all account reconciliations to the Controller.
  17. Attends and participates in meetings as required.
  18. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  19. Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  20. Completes special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Matric or accounting diploma or part B Comm or similar degree.
  2. Additional accounting or bookkeeping coursework preferred.
  3. Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and procedures including account reconciliation.
  4. Knowledge of related computer applications.
  5. One to two years of previous accounting experience preferred.
  6. Cooperative and willing to assist others.
