Accountant and Bookkeeper

Profile:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Junior Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our finance team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management, with at least five years of experience in a similar role. Experience in the retail or services industry is highly advantageous.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting. You should be highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and update financial records, including general ledger accounts.
• Process invoices, payments, and bank reconciliations.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management reports and financial statements.
• Handle VAT calculations, submissions, and compliance.
• Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
• Liaise with external auditors, suppliers, and financial institutions when necessary.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
• Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Good communication skills and ability to liaise with stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
• Experience in retail or the services industry is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of VAT, payroll, and financial reporting.
