Job summary

Propr is seeking an experienced accountant based in Cape Town to join our Finance team. You will maintain the general ledger, manage reconciliations, and prepare monthly management accounts for our growing short-term rental portfolio across SA and overseas regions.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and a solid grasp of SARS VAT, IFRS for SMEs and multi-currency handling.

Qualifications

• Completed BCom Accounting degree with 3–5 years' experience in a high‑volume environment.
• Confident with cloud accounting systems (e.g., Xero/Sage/QuickBooks).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets skills (pivots, lookups).
• Deep accounting knowledge around reconciliations, balance sheet control accounts and statutory compliance.
• Strong SARS VAT/tax understanding; IFRS for SMEs and multi-currency transactions.
• Tech-savvy and quick to learn new systems; experience with a property management system.</br>
• Excellent numerical ability and detail obsession; strong verbal and written communication.
• Organised, multitasks well, and adapts to last‑minute changes.
• Team player who supports colleagues and stays responsive on Slack/Asana.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining the general ledger and fixed asset register, and handling accounts payable and receivable.
• Processing journals, accruals and prepayments, and performing balance sheet reconciliations.
• Owning month‑end processes and preparing monthly management accounts and financial statements.
• Calculating, preparing and submitting statutory returns, liaising with suppliers, banks and SARS.
• Reviewing monthly client statements ahead of client payments and reconciling payments.
• Reconciling client payments, updating the debtors list and confirming accuracy.
• Assisting with budgeting, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Proven end‑to‑end payroll experience, from processing to statutory submissions.
• Slaying tasks, solving problems, and staying calm under pressure as part of a helpful team.

You'll be joining Propr's Finance team and will play a key role in keeping our financial reporting, reconciliations and compliance accurate and on time across our growing portfolio of short-term rentals.

Propr operates across South Africa, Dubai and Portugal - this role is based in South Africa and doesn't require travel, but gives you the exciting opportunity to gain exposure to working across these regions as part of the role. What you’ll be doing:

• Maintaining the general ledger and fixed asset register, and handling accounts payable and receivable
• Processing journals, accruals and prepayments, and performing balance sheet reconciliations
• Owning month-end processes and preparing monthly management accounts and financial statements (balance sheets and income statements)
• Calculating, preparing and submitting statutory returns, and liaising with suppliers, banks and SARS where required to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations
• Reviewing monthly client statements ahead of client payments being processed, and reconciling payments once made to confirm clients were paid accurately, updating the payments list accordingly
• Reconciling client payments once made, updating the debtors list, and confirming clients were paid accurately
• Assisting with budgeting, forecasts, variance analysis - and making recommendations based on performance data
• Proven end-to-end payroll experience, from processing and reconciling payroll runs through to statutory submissions.
• Slaying tasks, solving problems, kicking ass - spotting issues early and jumping in wherever needed, because we're all about being helpful

• Based in Cape Town
• Completed BCom Accounting degree, with 3-5 years' experience as an Accountant in a high-volume environment
• Confident with cloud accounting systems (e.g., Xero/Sage/QuickBooks)

• Deep, practical accounting knowledge - you know your way around reconciliations, balance sheet control accounts and statutory compliance
• Solid understanding of SARS guidelines on VAT and tax inside out, and able to apply that knowledge to a high standard in your day-to-day work
• Comprehensive understanding of IFRS for SMEs and multi-currency transactions
• Tech savvy and comfortable learning new systems quickly (we use a custom Property Management System and Asana/Front in our workflow)
• Excellent numerical ability and detail-obsessed in the best way - you don't let small errors slide
• Excellent verbal and written communication - clear, calm and professional
• Extremely organised, able to multitask, and quick to adapt to last-minute changes
• Solution-oriented and proactive; you tackle hurdles as they appear, even outside your job description, and stay calm under pressure - you run towards the fire, not from it

• Able to work reliably within South African business hours, and stay responsive on Slack/Asana
