Job Specification: Accountant
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Department: Finance

Position Overview:
The Accountant will assist with the accounting functions across various companies within the group, ensuring accurate reporting to the Finance Manager within set deadlines. This position is ideal for someone with a strong accounting background, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting and Financial Transactions:
    • Record and maintain day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring accuracy up to Trial Balance stage.
    • Prepare and maintain monthly supporting schedules for the trial balance.
    • Manage and maintain the loan register, including draw downs, repayments, and interest calculations.
    • Perform monthly reconciliations for banks, creditors, loans, and tax accounts.
    • Process month-end and year-end journals.
  • Audit Support:
    • Provide assistance during the annual financial audits, ensuring all necessary documents and reconciliations are prepared.
  • Credit Card Reconciliation:
    • Review credit card reconciliations and post transactions in the ERP system.
  • Lender Management:
    • Oversee obligations with lenders under finance documents, ensuring timely compliance.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare quarterly management accounts for individual companies and consolidated financial statements.
    • Compile and prepare quarterly documentation for individual companies in line with company requirements.
  • Banking Operations:
    • Load payments on the banking system, ensuring proper execution and reconciliation.


Educational Qualifications:

  • Accounting degree (B. Com, B. Compt, or similar).
  • Completion of SAICA or SAIPA articles will be advantageous.


Required Experience:

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, including IFRS and Tax regulations.
  • Experience with trusts is advantageous.
  • Proficient in using CaseWare, Word, Excel (Advanced), and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Sage X3 (advantageous).
  • Analytical, logical, and systematic approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with various departments and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in all tasks.
