A leading Accountancy firm based in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town (Diep River) is currently looking for an Accountant.
Purpose of the role :
- To render comprehensive accounting services to a portfolio of clients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
- Supervise and initiate processing of client information, including cheques, receipts, sales invoices, and purchase invoices.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Process and reconcile petty cash and cash control accounts.
- Maintain a fixed asset register.
- Prepare general journals (e.g., depreciation, provisions, interest, salaries, stock).
- Process journal entries such as new installment sale agreements, interest on borrowings, provisions, accruals, bad debts, etc.
- Reconcile debtors and creditors statements.
- Ensure correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets (property, plant & equipment) and investments, including tax calculations on capital gains/losses.
- Analyze the trial balance for errors or deviations and discuss findings with clients.
- Conduct analytical review of financial statements: GP%, inventory days, creditors days, debtors days.
- Produce draft financial statements.
- Prepare notes to financial statements.
- Identify provisions and contingent liabilities.
- Calculate tax liabilities for sole proprietors, individuals, close corporations, trusts, small business corporations, and partnerships.
- Reconcile input/output VAT with monthly trial balance.
- Compile and discuss monthly management accounts with clients.
Other Responsibilities :
- Request information from clients.
- Perform provisional tax calculations.
- Maintain strong client relationships.
- Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Demonstrate strong management, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Work independently managing a portfolio of clients.
- Meet monthly deadlines.
- Possess thorough knowledge of payroll, VAT, and e-filing.
Academic Qualifications / Experience :
- A degree in accounting is advantageous.
- Completion of SAICA / AGA / SAIPA qualifications is advantageous.
- Minimum 2-4 years of accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Xero, Pastel, and Microsoft Outlook.
