Job description

Woodridge College & Preparatory School is an ISASA registered, co-education Christian based school situated on a magnificent 365-acre multi-adventure eco-estate between Gqeberha and Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape.

Woodridge Preparatory School has the following position available:

Academic Head

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • An appropriate professional teaching qualification from a recognised institution (university degree and professional qualification);
  • A Postgraduate qualification (e.g. a Master’s in Education, Educational Leadership, or Curriculum Development) is preferred;
  • Further experience/certification in assessment and assessment types;
  • An in-depth understanding of the CAPS curriculum;
  • Extensive teaching experience in a Preparatory School;
  • Experience in curriculum development and academic planning;
  • Prior leadership experience;
  • Experience in Inquiry Education Systems or/and IB (PYP) experience;
  • Experience in the implementation of reading and reading support programmes.

Skills and Requirements

  • Strong leadership and management abilities;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with pupils, staff and parents;
  • Self-motivated team player with good organisational, time management and administration skills (including computer literacy, and the ability to use technology to enhance the learning experience);
  • Ability to oversee academic policies, assessments, and teacher development;
  • Knowledge of educational regulations and accreditation standards;
  • Consistently promote and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and individual differences;
  • Ability to handle conflict and adapt to change;
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to promote and embrace diversity and inclusion;
  • Ability to integrate AI and technology into the curriculum;
  • Requisite SACE certificate and relevant clearance certificates.

Duties and Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of the academic curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the School’s educational philosophy and Strategic Plan;
  • Leading curriculum innovation, integrating modern teaching methods and technology;
  • Supporting differentiation strategies to cater to diverse student learning needs.
  • Driving the mentorship and professional development programme for all teachers;\
  • Leading and inspiring a passionate team of teaching professionals;
  • Leading workshops and presentations for staff, parents and other educators across multiple learning aspects.
  • Monitoring student academic performance and supporting interventions where necessary;
  • Ensuring effective assessment and reporting systems are in place;
  • Working closely with learning support teams to assist pupils with specific educational needs;
  • Overall responsibility for report co-ordination.
  • Collaborating with the Head to develop and enforce academic policies;
  • Ensuring compliance with educational regulations and accreditation requirements;
  • Assisting in school inspections and reporting processes.
  • Communicating with parents about curriculum updates, pupil progress, and academic expectations.
  • Organising academic events such as pupil led conferences, workshops, subject-specific initiatives and parent teacher meetings;
  • Strengthening connections with external educational organisations and learning resources.
