Job description

Shift Laboratory Analyst

The Shift Laboratory Analyst position involves working shifts and being responsible for conducting quality control in accordance with the Quality Management System. The role includes performing analytical services to meet client needs and comply with the requirements of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.

This position requires carrying out analytical methods and standard operating procedures, reporting results with high precision and accuracy, and ensuring the delivery of effective, high-quality analytical services.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Meet reporting deadlines for various samples/commodities submitted for analysis, maintaining confidentiality of results.
  2. Perform analytical tasks assigned by laboratory management in line with GLP standards and pharmaceutical analytical culture.
  3. Follow current standard operating procedures for all tasks, including chromatography, dissolution testing, IR, UV, titrations, physical tests, and method validation.
  4. Collaborate with senior analysts and management on method development and validation.
  5. Complete and maintain accurate logbooks and calibration records, verifying calibration dates and standards beforehand.
  6. Ensure all determinations adhere strictly to provided methods, with deviations authorized by QA Manager or Responsible Person.
  7. Maintain the Quality Management System according to good documentation and laboratory practices.
  8. Prepare reagents accurately, document all relevant details, and ensure optimal use of laboratory apparatus.
  9. Document non-conformities as per guidelines and prepare raw data following ALCOA principles.
  10. Perform duties as per laboratory schedule, ensuring productivity and adherence to KPIs.
  11. Participate in safety procedures, maintain cleanliness, and comply with health and safety policies.
  12. Follow management instructions and perform reasonable additional duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years laboratory experience as an analyst.
  • Experience with HPLC and analytical software.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and its application in laboratory decision-making.
