Job Purpose:

The Assistant Teacher collaborates with E.C.E. Teacher(s) to provide and support an Early Learning and Development Program for children aged 0-12 years, in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), municipal guidelines, and Family Day policies.

Job Duties:

  • Support implementation of the HighScope educational approach and The Hanen Learning Language and Loving It Program
  • Assist E.C.E. in creating program plans reflecting children's interests and cultural needs
  • Participate in planning and evaluation activities
  • Assist in observing and assessing children's progress and behavior
  • Help develop Individual Program Plans for children with special needs
  • Demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, and support to families
  • Practice respectful communication with children, parents, colleagues, and volunteers
  • Support children experiencing difficulties, helping them understand and manage their feelings
  • Ensure activity areas are well-equipped and maintained
  • Work within Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Guide children in developing independent eating, dressing, and toileting habits
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience in child care or educational settings
  • Knowledge of best practices in early learning and childcare
  • Strong skills in leadership, communication, organization, assessment, teamwork, confidentiality, and creativity
  • Awareness of diversity and social inclusion
  • Medical requirements including TB testing (current within 6 months)
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check (current within 6 months)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday, 7 am - 6 pm
