Job description

Well-established automotive company based in Kariega is seeking a qualified and experienced applicant to join their dynamic team.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the Temporary Project Engineer position in the Logistics Department – Production (Kariega).

Brief Role Description

The successful candidate will plan, design, develop, and introduce provisions, modifications, and maintenance of material handling facilities, transport, packaging, processes, and systems. The goal is to optimize material flow from source to point of use, supporting Production, P&A, Localizations, and Export projects in achieving their targets. The role also involves analyzing, maintaining, and controlling Logistics Planning Contracts through liaison with relevant departments and external contractors to reduce costs and improve control methods.

Possible Tasks within this Role
  • Planning and preparing detailed logistics material flow concepts for production and warehouse environments to find optimal solutions.
  • Preparing detailed layouts, drawings, and job specifications for specialized facilities.
  • Designing and procuring logistics facilities such as stillages, pallets, dunnage, trolleys, racking, storage facilities, and packaging based on analysis of project requirements.
  • Defining project plans for coordination and monitoring.
  • Preparing enquiry requests to obtain quotations from suppliers.
  • Evaluating quotations and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Preparing appropriation requests for capital expenditure justification.
  • Preparing and issuing purchase requisitions.
  • Arranging project/facility/service acceptance and hand-over, including demonstrations or trials.
  • Preparing budget estimates for investment programs, cost studies, localization, and export projects.
  • Developing and introducing packaging specifications.
  • Drafting and updating Logistics Material Handling Contract specifications.
Qualification Requirements

Degree or National Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Logistics, or Purchasing.

Experience Needed

At least 3 years’ experience with logistics processes in a manufacturing environment, including a minimum of 18 months in Project Management.

Essential Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and under pressure.
  • Good planning, organizing, and decision-making abilities to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in interpreting 3D CAD drawings.
  • Full computer literacy, including advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Word.
Added Advantage
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing.
  • Experience with SAP in Supply Chain Management.
  • German language proficiency.
