Overview

Guardant Health is a leading precision oncology company focused on guarding wellness and giving every person more time free from cancer. Guardant tests help improve outcomes across all stages of care, including screening, monitoring for recurrence, and treatment selection. This role reports to the Payroll Manager and is a Hybrid position based in Torrey Pines with on-site days three times per week.

Role: Payroll Analyst II — a proactive and detail-oriented professional responsible for managing and optimizing payroll operations, with a strong technical and analytical background and experience managing complex multi-state payrolls in compliance with federal, state, and local statutes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Process Management: Oversee all payroll functions and process on- and off-cycle payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees in a multi-state environment.
  • Compliance & Audits: Lead payroll compliance with federal, state, and local statutes; manage key annual audits (e.g., 401(k), workers’ compensation).
  • System & Data Analysis: Generate and analyze audit reports, troubleshoot complex issues, ensure accuracy and timeliness of payroll data; analyze payroll data and system workflows to identify and resolve discrepancies, working with the ADP vendor.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance payroll processes; lead the implementation of new payroll procedures and document improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with People, Finance, and other departments to ensure data flow and accurate payroll-related accounting; provide timely resolution to employee payroll inquiries.
  • Strategic Projects: Own ad-hoc projects assigned by the Payroll Manager, applying analytical skills to solve new challenges.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience processing domestic payroll, including multi-state payroll for organizations with 1,000+ employees.
  • Strong working knowledge of ADP Payroll products; ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll compliance and federal/state employment laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially advanced Excel functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: Guardant Health defines days for in-person collaboration and work-from-home time. All U.S. employees living within 50 miles of a Guardant facility are required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. This schedule supports focused thinking and collaboration while maintaining flexibility for work-life balance.

Compensation: For positions based in San Diego, CA, the base salary range for this full-time role is $69,600 to $95,760. This range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. Within the range, pay is determined by location and factors including skills, experience, and education.

Additional Requirements: Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Most work is performed in an office environment; some exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and laboratory environments may occur. Ability to sit for extended periods.
