Job Summary

Our client is a US-based B2B manufacturer and distributor specializing in hardware technology for the cannabis industry. They are seeking a motivated and skilled Data Engineer for an initial 6-month contract-to-hire role with the potential to transition into a permanent position. As a Data Engineer you’ll design, build, and maintain our SQL Server-based data warehouse in an Azure environment. This role is vital for ensuring our data infrastructure is reliable, performant, and scalable to support our growing business needs. You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders across the business to transform raw data into clean, well-structured datasets for analytics and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and other tools as needed.
  • Build and optimize data models in SQL Server, ensuring performance, scalability, and data integrity.
  • Develop and maintain stored procedures, views, and advanced SQL queries for data transformation and reporting.
  • Automate data workflows and monitor daily data loads, troubleshooting and resolving issues proactively.
  • Support and maintain our Azure environment, including managing Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, and other relevant resources.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and Power BI developers to ensure that data is clean, well-documented, and accessible for reporting.
  • Leverage Python scripting for custom data processing tasks and automation where necessary.
  • Implement best practices for data governance, data quality, and security.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve our data architecture and processes to better serve business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in Data Engineering or ETL development roles.
  • Proven experience managing and developing SQL Server databases, including performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Strong expertise in Azure, especially Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage, and related data services.
  • Proficiency with advanced SQL for complex data transformations.
  • Experience using Python for scripting and automation in a data environment.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, including understanding how data models feed into reports and dashboards.
  • Solid understanding of data warehouse concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a small, fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines for data solutions.
  • Exposure to other Azure data tools (e.g., Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks).
  • Understanding of data security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of business processes relevant to the consumer goods industry.

Work Hours & Remote Work

This is a remote-only, full-time, contract-to-hire position with a typical workload of 40+ hours per week during standard business hours. While project deadlines may require extra effort, we prioritize a sustainable work-life balance.
