Job summary

BKF is seeking a Construction Inspector to perform on-site inspections and ensure compliance with contract requirements and permits. The role involves inspecting diverse construction activities, reviewing submittals, and supporting project safety and quality programs.

Qualified candidates have a college degree or 5+ years in Transportation/Civil projects and at least 4+ years of supervision or inspection experience, plus relevant certifications (CPII, ICC, ACI).

Qualifications

• College degree or 5+ years with Transportation or Civil projects.
• 4+ years of experience in supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex plans and specs.

Responsibilities

• Inspects a variety of construction projects and reports findings.
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency PM; informs contractors of variances from plans.
• Takes samples, prepares test specimens, and assists in field tests or refers samples to lab.
• Checks location of public utilities to avoid interference with work.
• Reviews traffic control plans and project safety; inspects earthwork, asphalt, concrete, and reinforcing steel.
• Assists PM in review of submittals, RFIs, and COs; verifies material acceptance.

Job description

BKF is hiring an ON CALLConstruction Inspectorto execute onsite construction inspections to ensure the project is being constructed in compliance with the contract requirements and applicable permits.

Responsibilities:

General

• Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
• Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications
• Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests, or refers samples for laboratory analysis
• Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
• Checks roadway/slope/structure grades, flow lines, and locations of structures
• Reviews contractor’s traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
• Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes
• Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
• Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI’s, CCO’s
• Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, test reports
• Maintains material and inspection records
• Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
• Other duties as assigned

• College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects
• 4 + years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications

• Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required

• The typical base salary range for this position is $125,000.00 - $160,000.00 annually, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location, hourly wage
