Job summary

Smithsonian Institution is seeking an Operations & Supply Supervisor at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington, DC. This full-time, trust fund role reports to the Operations Manager and supports stockroom processes, shipment handling, replenishment, price changes, and merchandising to uphold brand standards.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and 3+ years of related experience; duties include inventory management, safety compliance, and excellent vendor service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; and three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of receiving, distribution, and stocking methods to read and verify documents accompanying incoming merchandise.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to work with the Operations Manager to maintain performance.
  • Ability to accept written and verbal instructions from a supervisor; takes ownership and initiative to complete tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and verifies merchandise shipments.
  • Resolves receiving and inventory discrepancies.
  • Inspects and reports damaged merchandise.
  • Assists with inventory counts and audits.
  • Supports inventory control and documentation.
  • Safely transports merchandise as needed.
  • Improves warehouse efficiency and organization.
  • Rotates and stocks merchandise appropriately.
  • Maintains clean, organized stockrooms.
  • Labels and organizes inventory locations.
  • Communicates inventory updates to staff.
  • Monitors and replenishes store supplies.
  • Supports shrink reduction initiatives; assists with annual inventory preparation.
  • Provides excellent customer and vendor service.
  • Maintains product and exhibit knowledge.
  • Follows and promotes safety procedures.
  • Operates company vehicles safely.
  • Maintains attendance and timekeeping standards.
  • Follows leave and scheduling procedures.
  • Complies with dress code and ID requirements.
