Job summary

The Peoria Park District is seeking a Commissary Keeper at PEORIA ZOO in Peoria, IL. This part-time position involves handling, stocking, and procuring animal diets, while maintaining freezers and inventories in compliance with AZA/USDA standards.

Qualifications include an associate degree (preferred) or equivalent experience, plus about one year in animal care. Strong communication, organization, and computer skills are required for daily record-keeping and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Education: An associate’s degree is preferred; experience in a similar role may substitute for education.
• Experience: One year of animal care or related duties preferred.
• Knowledge: Proficient communication, organization, and ability to follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, store, and stock food and supplies for the animal department.
• Assist in procurement of animal diets from approved vendors and maintain freezers/refrigerators.
• Perform quality checks on stock and monitor expiration dates.
• Support husbandry needs including diet preparation and file/database upkeep.
• Maintain inventory and communicate maintenance needs for safety of all.
