Job summary
Prince William County is seeking an experienced Principal Planner to lead zoning text amendments and development regulation updates in support of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. You will manage complex projects, draft ordinance language, and coordinate with County leadership, consultants, and the public to implement policy direction.
This role requires exceptional project management, policy analysis, technical writing, and public presentation skills, with responsibilities spanning staff reports,
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with seven years of planning experience.
- Experience preparing zoning ordinances or land use policy.
- Experience with public meetings, staff reports, and presentations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as project manager for complex zoning text amendments.
- Draft amendments to the Zoning Ordinance and related regulations.
- Coordinate with Comprehensive Plan, Strategic Plan, and county policies.
- Lead consultant teams and manage schedules and budgets.
- Present recommendations to Planning Commission and Board.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting planning.
