Prince William County Planning Office seeks an experienced Principal Planner to lead zoning text amendments and development regulations aligned with the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and state law.

The role requires expert policy analysis, technical writing, and public presentation skills, collaborating with county leadership, consultants, and the community to shape housing, transportation, and economic development in Virginia's rapidly growing region.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. and 7+ years in professional planning, including zoning ordinances or land use policy.

Responsibilities

• Serve as project manager for complex zoning text amendments (ZTAs).
• Research, evaluate, and draft amendments to the Zoning Ordinance and related development regulations.
• Coordinate with Comprehensive Plan, Strategic Plan, and County policies.
• Lead consultant teams and manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Coordinate with County departments, legal counsel, state agencies, and stakeholders.
• Conduct stakeholder outreach and present recommendations to Planning Commission and Board.
