Job summary

City of Homer seeks an Assistant Planner to support the Planning and Zoning Division in enforcing zoning and land use regulations. You will assist the City Planner, manage records, prepare agendas, and provide information to the public on permits, variances, and development processes.

The role requires strong computer skills, GIS familiarity, and the ability to work with the public and professionals. A bachelor's degree in planning or a related field is preferred, with Alaska driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Three years' experience in planning or equivalent public-facing duties.
• Strong computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
• Knowledge of zoning and subdivision regulations.
• Ability to read maps and written agreements.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Greets the public and provides information on zoning codes, variances, and permits.
• Provides administrative support within the Planning and Zoning Division.
• Maintains records and filing systems for planning division.
• Prepares meeting agendas and compiles Planning Commission packets.
• Coordinates with Kenai Peninsula Borough on addressing updates.
• Reviews development proposals for compliance with regulations.
