Job summary

MUSC Health is seeking a journeyman-level maintenance technician to service Medical University of South Carolina Medical Centers. You will perform routine and complex repairs across facilities, using power and hand tools, following established trade practices and safety protocols.

Responsibilities include responding to assignments from the Hospital Help Desk and Maintenance leadership, maintaining designated zones, and providing supervision or monitoring when new tasks are assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of maintenance experience in a hospital, diversified building maintenance, or construction.
  • Technical or trade school in HVAC, electrical, electronics, or related field preferred.
  • Electrical and mechanical experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other maintenance fields.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and find solutions.
  • Experience working in indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Knowledge of electrical and radiant energy hazards, confined space work, toxic chemicals and biohazard materials.

Job description

Job Summary

This journeyman level position involves the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities across the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Centers during peak and non‑peak hours. The role uses power and hand tools to perform corrective maintenance and repairs, from minor to extensive tasks, following instructions and established trade practices. The employee may provide monitoring or supervision when new assignments are given.

Essential Duties

Maintain specific zone assignments, respond to assignments from the Hospital Help Desk, FSC, Maintenance Manager or Supervisor, and work under supervision. Considered essential personnel during a disaster.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two (2) years of maintenance experience in a hospital, diversified building maintenance, or construction.
  • Technical or trade school in HVAC, electrical, electronics, or related field preferred.
  • Electrical and mechanical experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other maintenance fields.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and find solutions.

Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Work in elevated areas, confined spaces and below ground.
  • Ability to stand, climb, kneel, bend, walk and lift up to 50 lb unassisted.
  • Operate winches, come‑along, jacks, hand tools and powered tools.
  • Must qualify physically for respirator use as required.
  • Some positions may require a commercial driver’s license and EPA approved freon recovery certification.
Pay and Schedule

Hourly. Pay grade Health‑23. Scheduled 40 weekly hours, day shift.
