Job Summary
Assist die makers, leads, supervisors, and managers in day-to-day activities in the tool room, with a willingness to change priorities at any time. Perform scheduled and unscheduled tool and die making/repairs. Work to improve dies to maximize plant efficiency and ensure parts meet customer specifications.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, and assemble parts to fabricate and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, radial drill press, and grinders, verifying conformance to specifications.
- Lift machined parts and position/secure them on surface plates or worktables.
- Assemble and preset tooling for subsequent operations during automated cycles to reduce machine downtime.
- Examine standard or used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, recommending design modifications as needed.
- Enter all daily time into SAP.
- Install and assemble hydraulic lines and components.
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances, working to tight tolerances.
- Smooth surfaces and fit parts into assemblies and mechanisms.
- Operate cranes, hilo’s, die carts, and other equipment for die work and setting.
- Operate manual machines like mills, lathes, saws, and grinders.
- Study specifications and visualize products to determine materials and machines needed.
- Plan layout and determine assembly methods and sequences.
- Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
- Adhere to safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, PPE, and reporting incidents.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow quality policies, standards, and participate in systems supporting ISO and IATF compliance.
- Follow company policies and uphold standards of conduct.
- Perform other duties to support company vision, mission, and values.
Education And Experience
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Journeyman certification required.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a tool room within manufacturing required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to obtain Crane and hi-lo certification.
- Ability to work independently.
- Sense of urgency regarding tooling issues.
- Effective communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills.
- Flexibility for odd hours.
- Proficiency with hand tools related to tool and die work.
- Knowledge of rebuilding and repairing standard die components.
- Understanding of setting dies on all relevant assets.
- English proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking.
