Job summary

Weber State University is seeking a student for the Zero Waste Coordinator role. The position leads zero waste initiatives, chairs the sustainability committee, and coordinates recycling education at athletic events, campus programs, and club activities.

As a current student with strong organizational and communication skills, you will manage data for sustainability reporting and assist with outreach. The role is hourly, 20 hours/week, long-term with enrollment at WSU.

  • Conduct monthly recycling contamination checks and maintain records for annual reporting.

Job Summary/Basic Function

The Zero Waste Coordinator will serve as the Chair of WSU’s Zero Waste Committee and will be responsible for taking the lead implementing the zero waste and green purchasing goals and objectives in WSU’s Sustainability Plan. Specifically, this position is responsible for the following:

  • a. Leading the implementation of the zero waste and green purchasing goals and objectives in WSU’s Sustainability Plan.
  • b. Serving as WSU’s Zero Waste Committee Chair which requires organizing meetings, setting agendas, and leading the work of this committee.
  • c. Leading WSU’s Zero Waste Athletics Program (Wildcats go Zero Waste) which includes recruiting volunteers and working with Athletics staff to provide recycling education at the games.
  • d. Serving as the Zero Waste Vice President within the Environmental Ambassadors Club. Managing student zero waste events (e.g. Green move in/out, free swap, fix-it workshops, or waste-related speakers/film screenings, book clubs, etc.).
  • e. Assisting the EA president as needed with the planning and execution of all other Environmental Ambassador Club events.
  • f. Conducting monthly recycling contamination check-ins and maintain up-to-date records for annual reporting purposes.
  • g. Conducting zero waste education and outreach.
  • h. Assisting the Sustainability Manager with collecting and analyzing all waste and green purchasing-related data for WSU’s annual sustainability report and for STARS .

Required Qualifications

  • - Must be a current WSU student with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

  • - Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Word, and the Adobe Suite
  • - Excellent communication skills, including but not limited to: technical writing, computer skills, public speaking, and oral presentation

Due to the Affordable Care Act ( ACA ), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as an hourly or adjunct employee at Weber State for six months.

Physical Requirements of this position Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
