Job description

Eagan, MN Contract On-Site Flexibility/Remote: 100%

PlanIT Group is seeking a z/OS Developer to support our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in mainframe migration projects or modernization initiatives. Familiarity with mainframe communication tools such as CICS and mainframe security protocols, including RACF.

Required Experience

1. 5+ years of hands-on experience with COBOL programming on IBM z/OS.
2. Proficiency in JCL, VSAM, DB2, IMS, and CICS.
3. Experience in mainframe migration projects or modernization initiatives is preferred.
4. Familiarity with mainframe communication tools such as CICS and mainframe security protocols, including RACF.

Technical Skills

1. Must be proficient in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, and CICS.
2. Strong knowledge of batch processing and online transaction processing.
3. Must have experience with IBM utilities, TSO/ISPF, and Abend-AID.
4. Experience with Control-D, Control-M, File-AID.
5. Knowledge of best practices in mainframe migration planning, including risk assessment and resource management.

Soft Skills

1. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
2. Effective verbal and written communication skills, especially for collaborating on mainframe integration with Java developers and migration planning.
3. Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a focus on quality and attention to detail.

Preferred:

1. Experience with DevOps practices on mainframes, including tools like Jenkins and Git.
2. Prior experience with performance tuning on mainframe systems.
3. Prior experience with ServiceNow.

Additional Provisions:

1. Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
2. Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check.
3. All candidates must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident / Green Card required.
4. Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
5. Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)
