Base pay range
$40,000.00/yr - $42,000.00/yr
Summary
Creative growth is encouraged by designing a curriculum that allows each child to contribute in his or her unique way. Children, parents, teachers, and the environment form a complete circle of learning, inspiring all to join in the process. The purpose of the Lead Teacher is to establish and maintain a safe learning environment that is cognitively stimulating, aesthetically pleasing, and fosters a child's emotional, social, physical, and cognitive growth using a Reggio Emilia Inspired approach to learning.
Duties
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate daily programs that are age appropriate and cognitively stimulating.
- Arrange space, setting, and materials in the classroom and outdoors, according to high standards; ensuring a clean, orderly, child-centered environment.
- Facilitate learning using a Reggio Emilia inspired educational philosophy. Demonstrate proficiency in adapting lessons and activities to meet all children's needs. If using Creative Curriculum, plan and implement through a Reggio lens.
- Observe children's activities and progress; document and share information regularly with the teaching team and parents/guardians.
- Use observation, documentation, and data from the GOLD assessment tool as foundations for provocations and experiences.
- Be knowledgeable of Virginia's Quality Initiatives and NAEYC accreditation standards; enforce licensing regulations and standards.
- Maintain up-to-date children's portfolios and assessment records.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues, office staff, and center Director.
- Develop supportive relationships with parents/guardians and facilitate participation in classrooms through conferences, home visits, etc.
- Promote community engagement and social responsibility through multicultural and anti-bias programming.
- Manage children's behavior in a solution-focused, trauma-informed manner.
- Complete administrative paperwork such as injury reports, meal counts, health checks, cleaning checklists, ensuring compliance and quality.
- Demonstrate professionalism, engagement, and kindness to all children and families, regardless of race, religion, nationality, or abilities.
- Maintain confidentiality and a professional environment; perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
- Must align with the organization's mission and values.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide guidance and supervision for Assistant Teachers, Teacher Aides, Volunteers, and Foster Grandparents as appropriate.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- CDA or AA/BA in ECE; or non-ECE BA with 15 ECE credits and 1-year experience.
- Some positions require Virginia certification to teach preschool.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of early childhood principles and techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- 1 year ECE experience.
- Training in Virginia's Quality Initiatives, NAEYC, Reggio Emilia, and Creative Curriculum.
- Multilingual and multicultural experience.
