Job summary

Park City Egyptian Theatre is seeking a part-time YouTheatre Tech Instructor to teach and operate tech systems in our YouTheatre black box. You will work onsite with students aged 10–18, running classes in tech fundamentals and backstage design, and assist with tech crew involvement in productions.

The role requires live show experience, teaching ability, and flexibility to wear multiple hats, including safety and planning alongside the Technical Director.

Responsibilities

• Teach 2 weekly classes to students aged 10–18.
• Tuesdays: Tech Fundamentals 5:15–6:30pm – basics of Stage Crew, lights, sound, projections.
• Wednesdays: Backstage Skills & Design – lighting, sound, video, prop and set design.
• Coordinate lesson plans with the program Technical Director.
• Support student involvement in blackbox productions as part of tech crew.
• Provide additional technical support for the studio and uphold safety.

Job description

The Park City Egyptian Theatre is hiring a part-time YouTheatre Tech Instructor. Focused on teaching and operating tech systems in our YouTheatre black box. Includes, working with children, video/sound/lighting design, video/audio recording & editing, video/sound networking, running cable, and improving our studio space’s technical abilities. Must be willing to work onsite and at times non-traditional hours. The successful candidate will have live show/theatre experience and be willing to wear many hats.

Position is hourly pay rate, part-time (under 32 hours a week), no overtime. Required to be onsite for all of that time.

Responsibilities

• Teach 2 weekly classes to students 10-18 years old
• Tech Fundamentals | Tuesdays, 5:15-6:30pm
  • Learn the basics of Stage Crew, from working backstage handling sets, props, and special effects to programming and operating lights, sound, and projections.
• Backstage Skills & Design | Wednesdays, 5:15-6:30pm
  • A deeper dive into the world of lighting, sound, video, prop, and set design. Students will learn the techniques and theory that go into designing a production from the stage to the screen.
• Work with program Technical Director to coordinate lesson plans and learning objectives
• Work with program Technical Director to work toward student involvement in blackbox productions as part of a tech crew
• Provide additional technical support for the studio space as needed
• Uphold theatre safety measures and keep student safety as #1 priority

Qualifications

• Recent experience working live shows.
• Basic knowledge of stagecraft and stage terminology.
• Physically able to lift and move equipment.
• Willing to collaborate and adapt to working with a variety of personality types, and a variety of types of shows and stage design.
• Available to work weekday afternoons/evenings with occasional weekends. For the fall semester, the tech classes will be Tuesday & Wednesday evenings from 5:15-6:30pm, September 14th through November 14th. Winter and Spring semester schedule information is still being finalized.
• Experience and skill working with/around children
• Teaching experience
• Able to execute a weekly lesson plan and meet learning goals for the students throughout a 7- or 8-week semester.
• Experience with power tools, and basic knowledge of safety measures. Such as, safe rigging and proper operation of a counterweight fly system.
• Soldering experience beneficial.
• Effective time-management skills and the ability to multitask.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency in Adobe suite programs (e.g. Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, etc) is also beneficial but not required.
• Versed in both Mac and Windows with a basic knowledge of computer networking.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Professional and proactive work ethic.
