Founded in 2006, CAL Sports Academy provides youth sports instruction, training, leagues, camps, clinics, private training, and athlete development opportunities designed to help young people improve both on and off the court.

Our goal is to create positive, organized, and development focused environments where athletes can improve their volleyball skills while building confidence, character, discipline, leadership, teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.

We believe coaches play an important role in a young athlete’s development. The way a coach teaches, communicates, prepares, leads, and responds to challenges can influence an athlete long after a season or program ends.

Position Overview

CAL Sports Academy is seeking responsible, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic candidates for our Youth Volleyball Instructor/Coach position.

This part time position is designed for individuals with meaningful volleyball playing, coaching, training, or instructional experience who enjoy working with young athletes and helping them improve their skills, confidence, volleyball IQ, teamwork, discipline, and understanding of the game.

Youth Volleyball Coaches may work with athletes through instructional classes, clinics, camps, leagues, private training, small group training, and other volleyball development opportunities based on experience, qualifications, availability, and organizational needs.

Successful candidates should be able to teach clearly, demonstrate proper technique, organize drills, provide constructive feedback, manage groups effectively, and create an environment where young athletes enjoy learning and improving.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead organized, engaging, and age appropriate volleyball instruction for youth athletes.
  • Teach volleyball fundamentals including serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, footwork, court movement, positioning, communication, and game concepts.
  • Help athletes develop volleyball IQ and a stronger understanding of individual and team concepts.
  • Prepare lesson plans, drills, and training progressions in advance of assigned programs.
  • Adapt instruction for beginner, intermediate, and more experienced athletes.
  • Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, correction, encouragement, and constructive feedback.
  • Keep athletes active, engaged, and appropriately challenged throughout each session.
  • Help athletes build confidence, discipline, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and a positive approach to competition.
  • Evaluate athlete strengths, developmental needs, and areas for continued improvement.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, organized, and encouraging learning environment.
  • Set up and break down volleyball equipment before and after programs.
  • Communicate professionally with athletes, parents, fellow coaches, and CAL Sports Academy staff.
  • Provide appropriate feedback regarding athlete progress when requested.
  • Assist with camps, clinics, leagues, training programs, private training, and special events as opportunities become available.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all assigned programs.
  • Represent CAL Sports Academy with professionalism, enthusiasm, integrity, and respect.
What We Are Looking For
  • Previous volleyball playing, coaching, training, or instructional experience.
  • Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals and terminology.
  • Ability to clearly demonstrate and teach volleyball skills.
  • Experience working with children or teenagers.
  • Positive, energetic, patient, and encouraging coaching style.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and professional.
  • Ability to work effectively with athletes of different ages and skill levels.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other CAL Sports Academy coaches and staff.
  • Willingness to receive feedback, continue learning, and grow professionally.
Preferred Background
  • Previous youth volleyball coaching or instructional experience.
  • Competitive high school, club, collegiate, professional, or other advanced volleyball playing experience.
  • Experience independently planning and leading practices, classes, clinics, or training sessions.
  • Experience providing private or small group volleyball training.
  • Experience working with athletes across multiple ages and skill levels.
  • Experience communicating with parents and families in a youth sports environment.
  • Background in Physical Education, Education, Exercise Science, Recreation, Coaching, or Sports Management.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
Schedule

This is a part time position with hours based on program needs, athlete enrollment, qualifications, and coach availability.

Our Primary Coaching Opportunities Are Generally
  • Monday through Friday: approximately 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Saturdays: approximately 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Additional camp, clinic, league, private training, and special event opportunities throughout the year.

Coaches are not required to be available every day. However, consistent weekly availability is important for maintaining dependable programming and strong relationships with athletes and families.

Coaching Development

We understand that strong coaches continue learning. Depending on experience and position, coaches may have opportunities to work alongside experienced members of our staff, receive feedback and mentorship, strengthen their teaching and communication skills, and take on additional responsibilities as they grow.

Some candidates may begin in an assistant or developmental role before independently leading programs. Advancement is based on readiness, performance, reliability, available opportunities, and organizational needs.

Compensation

Compensation is based on volleyball background, coaching experience, teaching ability, qualifications, responsibilities, and overall fit.

Additional earning opportunities may become available through private training, small group training, camps, clinics, leagues, and expanded coaching responsibilities.

Required Clearances
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Pennsylvania Criminal History Record Check
  • FBI Fingerprint Background Check, when applicable

Candidates who do not currently possess the required clearances must be willing and able to obtain them before beginning employment.

Coaching & Employment Expectations
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality for assigned programs.
  • Communicate schedule conflicts or emergencies promptly and professionally.
  • Follow CAL Sports Academy coaching standards, policies, curriculum, athlete development philosophy, and safety expectations.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality regarding CAL Sports Academy athletes, families, staff, programs, systems, and business information.
  • Disclose any current coaching, training, employment, ownership, or business relationship with another youth sports organization that may create a conflict with CAL Sports Academy.
  • Comply with applicable CAL Sports Academy employment, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and other employment agreement requirements if hired.
