Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is hiring a Volleyball Sports Instructor for Prospect Park YMCA in Brooklyn. This part-time role focuses on working with children and teens to promote sport participation, develop physical skills, and build confidence in a positive, inclusive setting.

You will design progressive lessons, supervise participants, teach fundamentals, and communicate with parents about progress and upcoming sessions. CPR/First Aid and coaching training are required within set timeframes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year experience teaching children/teens sports in a structured setting.
• Knowledge of youth development stages.
• Content expert in designated sports activity.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
• Current First Aid or CPR certifications.
• Must attend YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days.
• Must obtain CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Develop program objectives and goals for each session with the Supervisor.
• Create age-appropriate progressive written lesson plans.
• Supervise participants per YMCA standards (ratio, attendance).
• Modify lesson plans to meet participant needs.
• Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Teach rules and fundamentals and develop basic skills.
• Communicate progress to parents/guardians and promote next sessions.
• Ensure equipment is safe and properly maintained.
